FAQ’s
What services do you offer?
We provide physiotherapy, sports massage, and strength and mobility training, alongside online consultations for those who prefer care at home. Our Chartered Physiotherapists treat a wide range of conditions — from back and neck pain to arthritis, sports injuries, and post-surgery rehab. Treatment combines hands-on therapy with structured exercise and education, supported by our clinic’s rehabilitation facilities.
How can physiotherapy help me?
Physiotherapy can reduce pain, restore movement, and improve strength. At Function First, we don’t just focus on short-term relief — we identify the root cause of your problem and build a plan to fix it. With tailored exercise programmes, movement coaching, and ongoing guidance, we give you the confidence to stay active and prevent setbacks.
What conditions do you treat?
We treat most musculoskeletal issues, including back pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder injuries, hip and knee problems, arthritis, tendon pain, and more. We also specialise in sports injury rehabilitation and post-surgery recovery, helping patients return to sport, work, and daily life safely.
What’s the difference between physiotherapy and sports massage?
Physiotherapy focuses on diagnosing and treating the source of pain or injury using a mix of manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, and education. Sports massage is a complementary treatment aimed at reducing tension, improving circulation, and speeding up recovery. Many of our patients benefit from a combination of both, depending on their needs.
Can physiotherapy help with long-term conditions like arthritis?
Yes. Physiotherapy can make a big difference in managing arthritis by improving mobility, reducing pain, and strengthening the muscles around affected joints. Our approach focuses on keeping you active and independent with the right blend of hands-on care and progressive exercise.
Can physiotherapy improve sports performance, not just injury recovery?
Absolutely. Physiotherapy isn’t only about fixing pain — it’s also about helping you perform at your best. We analyse your movement, strengthen weak areas, and build mobility so you can train harder, recover faster, and avoid injury.
Do I need a GP referral for treatment?
No referral is needed to book with us directly. If you’re using private health insurance, some providers may ask for one — so it’s worth checking your policy. For ongoing medical conditions, we recommend keeping your GP informed alongside your physiotherapy care.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We aim to offer appointments within a few days. You can check real-time availability through our online booking system, or call us if you need urgent treatment. If no slots are available, we’ll add you to our waiting list and do our best to see you quickly.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes, we provide flexible appointment times, including evenings and weekends to suit busy schedules. Availability can vary, so check our booking system or contact us directly if you need a specific time.
What should I expect from therapy sessions?
Your first appointment includes a thorough assessment and initial treatment. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in (shorts and a vest top are ideal). Follow-up sessions usually last 30–60 minutes and may involve hands-on therapy, tailored exercises, or rehabilitation in our gym.
How long does it take to see results?
Every patient is different. Some notice improvements straight after their first session, while others may need a few sessions to feel a difference. For more complex or long-term conditions, it can take longer. What we can promise is a clear plan, consistent guidance, and strategies to keep progress steady and sustainable.
Is physiotherapy painful?
Physiotherapy should not be painful. Some techniques may feel uncomfortable as your body adapts, but your therapist will always work within safe limits and explain everything clearly so you feel comfortable.
How much do sessions cost?
Our prices vary depending on the type and length of session. You can view our full price list under the ‘About’ section on our website. We believe in transparent pricing, with no hidden extras — just effective treatment designed to deliver long-term results.
Am I covered by my health insurer?
As HCPC-registered physiotherapists, we are recognised by many private health insurers. Requirements vary, so check with your provider before booking. We can provide invoices for cash plans such as Westfield Health.
How do I stay on track with my rehab?
We provide every patient with a structured exercise plan that includes clear instructions, videos, and progress tracking. Alongside your sessions, you’ll have ongoing guidance, regular progress reviews, and 24/7 support — so you’re never left unsure of what to do next and can keep moving forward with confidence.
